Presidents Update

April 3, 2007

By: Edward Yurica - President Fuentes Verdes

I want to thank all of you that attended our meeting on March 10th for
making it a very successful event. I like to believe that our voice and our
concerns are being heard and the evidence is in our growing membership.
Fuentes Verdes plans to continue to bring in people with expertise in
various areas such as Roberta and La Reserva . I trust you all enjoyed her
presentation her information and her spirit.

IMPORTANT : On April 14 at 1pm at the Hotel Tilawa there will be a meeting
to elect officers for the coming year. It is important that you attend so
as to facilitate the organizational requirements of Fuentes Verdes. And if
any of you have aspirations to serve let us know. Perhaps someday there
will be a way to accomplish this via modern technology i.e. e-mail, but for
now this is the form we must follow. The positions are President, Vice
President, Secretary, Treasurer, Vocal 1, Vocal 2, Fiscal.

Other News. Dr Hilda Barrantes of Ministerio de Salud presented a most
excellent report to the municipal consejo. She heads the commission that
was formed by the municipality of which we are a member and for which we go
out on “jera’s” inspecting farms and developments, roads and such. After a
year of these excursions the information when packaged presented obviously
turned the heads of the members of the council as well as the mayor. The
photos, the laws, the problems could not be ignored. Though the
municipality argues it is not their responsibility, legal actions in Playa
del Coco as well as other municipalities around Costa Rica are being
initiated and I take this as a harbinger of possible things to come. The
municipality has heard this. “Vamos a ver” goes the expression. But I
think the proverbial “tide” is changing. Moratoriums on new building
construction are being implemented around the country. The water problems
in this country are finally getting the attention that is necessary to make
changes. Speaking of which I was remiss in informing you all about World
Water Day. To that end, if there is something that is perhaps of importance
like a World Water Day or link, help me get that message out.

Our web site should be up by weeks end. Fuentes Verdes.org will have a
page but no content until “we” get something on there.

There was an Executive Council meeting March 24 where the Recycling Center
and its problems and future were discussed. We are trying to figure out how
to best help. I will keep you informed as best I can, and if there are any
of you that have time and willingness to participate in this project we can
put you in touch with some of the participants.

Enjoy Semana Santa and Pura Vida
